The Canadian Cancer Society is issuing a challenge to all in BC, including government.
BC has a smoking rate of 14%, and the society is calling on British Columbians to bring that down to 9% by 2018.
Nancy Falconer with the Canadian Cancer Society says they'd like to see the Liberal Government take some action.
"Restrict smoking in outdoor customer service areas of restaurants, bars and pubs. There's sort of an uneven playing field across BC right now in terms of what restaurants, pubs and coffee shops allow smoking on outdoor patios. We'd also like to restrict smoking on beaches, parks, playgrounds, and at public events, especially where children play."
The society would also like a reduction in the number of places tobacco is sold, and a ban on all flavoured tobacco products not covered by federal legislation.
