The small town of Elkford in the Kootenay Rockies is dealing with its worst flood in 50 years.
Mayor Dean McKerracher says the good news is his residents are not in any danger.
But he says the bad news is that a business area was hit hard and shops had to be evacuated.
"Water actually came over the river banks by the Elk River Bridge and started to flood that area, so we only had a couple hours to get the people in here and get the stuff out they wanted."
McKerracher says roads have been re-opened in the town, with the exception of one local road.
He says although the river levels have receded, they are expecting more rain overnight and tomorrow.
A 24 hour watch is underway to monitor the river levels and bridges.
