"Disappointing" and "political" is how the former president of the BC Ferry and Marine Workers Union describes yesterday's sentencing of "Queen of the North" ferry navigator Karl Lilgert.
Jackie Miller says the entire process was political, and no single person should be shouldering all of the blame.
"I don't think there's anywhere else in the world where an incident of this magnitude has taken place and one deckhand has been identified as the sole cause of the accident and then gone on to be criminally charged and tried and convicted."
Miller says BC Ferries should have been investigated.
She says the Transportation Safety Board determined there were serious safety deficiencies at BC Ferries.
She also says at the end of the day, we still don't know exactly what happened the night the ferry sank.
