A hiker is recovering after falling down a steep embankment near Shawinigan Lake on Vancouver Island.
A cormorant helicopter was dispatched last evening to rescue the man, who had fallen about 20 feet into a deep crevasse on old baldy mountain.
He had to be airlifted from the steep and remote terrain because he suffered serious injuries to his lower body.
The search and rescue team members who found by on the ground used silver emergency blankets to reflect the sun and signal to the helicopter their location.
The hiker was taken to hospital in stable condition.
