One day after a fire destroyed its lone grocery store, the remote B.C. community of Bella Bella is improving ways to rebuild.
Marilyn Slett, chief councillor of the Heiltsuk First Nation, says the nearest grocery store big enough to sustain the community is an 11-hour ferry ride away.
She says that means BC Ferries is going to bring in food and supplies temporarily, which will then be sold to people in a local church.
"So that will be converted into a store, and then medium-term, looking at something like trailers, long-term, rebuilding the store."
Slett says those wanting to help the community can donate at rebuildbellabella.tumblr.com
Police are still investigating was caused the building to catch fire.
