Animal rights activists in Vancouver are calling on the Calgary Stampede to put an end to some traditional events.
The call comes after a 12-year-old thoroughbred collapsed and died after a chuckwagon race yesterday.
It's the second animal death at this year's Stampede.
A steer had to be put down earlier after injuring itself at the rodeo.
Vancouver Humane Society Spokesman Peter Fricker says the Stampede must immediately stop and review what he calls dangerous events.
"We think it's just unacceptable that animals are being put in danger and subjected to stress and pain and fear all for the sake of entertainment."
The society is also calling for a ban on calf roping.
A spokesperson for the Stampede says a post-mortem examine will be performed on the horse, which displayed no obvious signs of injury.
