About 200 people surrounded the dozens of flower bouquets leaning against the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver Friday evening to say goodbye to Glee actor Cory Monteith.
Fans sang songs from the show, lit candles, shouted messages of support and released balloons into the air tied to handwritten notes.
Said one fan: "I just think it's sad that another young person was unable to fight those demons and things went in a negative way."
Monteith's cousin was also at the vigil.
Richard Monteith says it's hard to top what Glee does.
"They're raising a generation of young, beautiful people with such a positive outlook and it makes me happy and it's easier for me to cope."
The 31-year-old died of a mix of alcohol and heroin.
His body was discovered inside his hotel room last Saturday after he failed to check out.
