As promised, a woman who opposes the mandatory installation of smart meters on B.C. homes has filed a civil lawsuit against BC Hydro, with the hope it will later be certified as a class action suit.
Nomi Davis from Salt Spring Island is the plaintiff.
The suit seeks that Hydro remove unwanted smart meters and no longer require people to pay a fine if they want to use a meter that doesn't have a radio transmitter.
The meters have long been crticised by certain groups over possible health and privacy effects.
Davis and other opponents are seeking others to join their efforts.
Earlier this month, the BC government eased its requirements for all homes to get the meters, saying people who don't want them can opt out if they pay a fine.
